York Regional Police Chief Jim MacSween released a lengthy statement Friday defending his comments that victims should “comply” with demands from violent intruders while saying understands the public backlash to his advice.
The anger was in response to the murder of 46-year-old Abdul Aleem Farooqi, a father gunned down while confronting home invaders while protecting his family inside his Vaughan residence on Sunday.
In his statement, MacSween said he recognized his remarks left many people angry when he suggested residents should not take matters into their own hands when confronted by violent criminals.
