CEDAR KEY, Fla. (WCJB) - Cedar Key Fire Rescue’s weather station was hit by lightning in mid-August, and within just a few hours, the community came together to donate $1,350 for a new one.
“It’s just a giving community. We’re like one big family,” shared Cedar Key Fire Chief Robert Robinson.
Robinson said this weather station was originally installed 10 years ago.
Now, it’s not only a crucial resource for the fire department, but people on the island, such as fishing guides and even us here at TV20, as we show time lapses of weather conditions throughout the day.
“It gives us a record, but the problem is, like last year, when the power goes off, we lose signal,” Robinson said. “So it doesn’t do us any good. But as long as it’s working, if we’re in the fire station, we can feel the gus
