Three student-athletes at Santa Rosa Junior College have filed a federal Title IX complaint alleging the school has violated federal law by allowing a transgender athlete to play with the women’s volleyball team.

In the claim filed Wednesday, the three student-athletes alleged that last October one of them saw the transgender player injure a “teammate by striking the volleyball at the teammate’s head causing a concussion….” The three complainants also said they were barred from playing after voicing their concerns.

California law requires K-12 schools to allow transgender athletes to compete, but the rules are murkier for college athletes.
