INDIANAPOLIS — It was a close battle between two undefeated, ranked teams in Class 6A , but it was Hamilton Southeastern who just barely held off Avon for a 17-14 win on Friday night.
The game began with both teams trading punts early in the first quarter until HSE senior Drew Babb punched his way into the end zone to go up 6-0. Luke Marchionni's extra point gave the Royals a 7-0 lead with around three minutes left in the first quarter.
Avon tried to respond on their next drive, but a failed attempt to go for it on fourth-and-1 gave the ball back to HSE.
The Royals took over at the Orioles' 35-yard line and got into the red zone early in the second quarter. However, much like Avon's previous drive, HSE also failed to convert on fourth down.
