Lidl has moved one step closer to opening another store in Middlesbrough , with plans now submitted to the council. The supermarket heavyweight hopes to open its third store in the town, which would be located in Marton .

The two existing stores are on Newport Road and Cargo Fleet Lane, both in the north of the town. The company is also in the process of attempting, once again, to gain permission for a store in Linthorpe .

Lidl previously said its proposals were ready to be shared at a public consultation event in July, which has resulted in significant feedback for the company. The multi-million pound investment would feature an in-store bakery and 'Middle of Lidl' aisle, while creating around 40 new jobs.
