WATERFORD – Milford trailed for the majority of Friday night’s game at Waterford Mott, but never did the Mavericks come closer to rectifying that than in the last moments.
The Mavs scored with three seconds left to pull within one, but were turned back on the 2-point conversion, allowing Mott to survive with a 28-27 victory.
Drama in the final minute was dialed up when Luke Perkins recovered a fumble to give the Mavericks the ball at their own 20-yard line with 50 seconds left. Hudson Smith completed several passes to John Short to move the ball toward midfield, but Milford’s chances really increased when Noah Pike made a catch between the hashes, then weaved free down the left sideline on a 38-yard gain, and a personal foul tacked on an additional 10 yards, leaving the Mavs with just 10
