COMMERCE TOWNSHIP – Carter Travis and Sam Broome both had big nights to lead the Lakeland Eagles to a 48-20 win over the Walled Lake Northern Knights on Friday evening.
The Eagles scored on their first six offensive possessions as Lakeland’s offense simply dominated leading into the fourth quarter.
Walled Lake Northern had a brief 7-6 lead in the first quarter when Brady Veliu dumped a ball over the top of the defense to Reid Widmer, and Widmer turned on the jets, outracing everyone for a 38-yard touchdown. But the Knights’ offense didn’t produce any more points until the fourth quarter as Lakeland’s defense, led by Drew Alvis and C.J. Zanneveld, helped prevent any other big plays, and the Knights couldn’t muster enough consistency to sustain long drives. The Eagles led 35-7 at halftime,
