MT. PLEASANT — With all the hoopla surrounding Friday’s special game at Central Michigan University’s Kelly/Shorts Stadium, it would’ve been easy for the Clare Pioneers to get distracted, fall into old bad habits and take their foot off the gas.

But they didn’t.

Instead, the Pioneers put the pedal down, scoring a flurry of three touchdowns in the first seven minutes of the second half — the first two of them in the span of three plays — pulling away from Ortonville Brandon for a 43-20 win.
