RIDGEFIELD — The Prairie Falcons had a hard time stopping Ridgefield in the second half on Friday.
But when the Falcons needed a stop most, they got it.
Prairie stopped the Spudders on a two-point conversion attempt with 40 seconds to go, preserving a 46-44 victory in a wild season opening in Ridgefield.
“That was great,” Prairie senior quarterback Deven Vigue said. “You couldn’t ask for much more. It doesn’t matter what you do. It always comes down to the last play.”
Prairie never trailed in the game after Vigue broke free on an 80-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage.
But Ridgefield battled back from a 30-19 halftime deficit to tie the game twice at 30-30 early in the fourth quarter and again at 38-38 with 4:13 to play.
