The fourth-ranked Fruita Monument High School softball team went 1-2 on Friday during the first day of the Dave Sanders Memorial Tournament in Aurora.
The Wildcats opened the day by rallying to defeat Lakewood 9-8 on Leila Hoisington’s walk-off single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Hoisington’s game-winner was one of four straight singles to close the game, including Emma Lara’s single that tied the game 8-8.
Three players had three hits in the win — Hoisington, Lara, Addison Hopper and Lauren Englehart — with Lara and Teagen Clements each collecting two RBI. Clara Denton-Baleztena hit a solo home run in the fifth inning.
After not allowing an earned run over her first four starts, Clements allowed eight runs — seven earned — on 11 hits to earn the win.
