Now is the time for a ceasefire in Gaza. Since Israel resumed its military assault on Gaza on March 18, after it unilaterally abandoned the January 2025 ceasefire agreement, people in Gaza have been increasing pressure on Hamas to make a deal to end Israel’s forced starvation campaign and the relentless terror bombings.
After a series of meetings with a range of Palestinian parties and factions, Hamas formally agreed last week to a series of major concessions in the Gaza ceasefire negotiations. Israel has not responded to the proposed agreement for an initial 60-day ceasefire drafted by Egyptian and Qatari mediators. Instead, Israel has moved forward with a mobilization of 60,000 reserve troops in what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised will be a massive ground invasion of Gaza
