An eccentric aristocrat who took 2,000 bottles of port to 'see him through' his studies at Cambridge University and went on to blow a £20milllion fortune and become a Tory MP is due to appear at a Midlands hotel this month - 200 years after he died.

It's said the ghost of John 'Mad Jack' Mytton can be seen wandering the rooms and corridors of The Mytton & Mermaid Hotel, in Shropshire, every year on September 30, his birthday.

John was born in 1796 to a well-heeled family of squires, whose lineage stretched back 500 years, and inherited the family seat of Halston Hall, Whittington, near Oswestry, aged just two after his father died.
