HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) - The County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation, along with community supporters, celebrated the reconstruction of a bright orange landmark at Liliuokalani Gardens.
The celebration was held on Friday at the gardens with the reopening of the wood bridge pavilion.
County officials said the old bridge was removed last fall after heavy termite damage.
“This unique bridge at Liliuokalani Gardens is beloved by so many of our community members, who have special memories connected to it,” said Mayor Kimo Alameda.
DPR officials said that carpenters with the Parks and Recreation Maintenance Division replicated the bridge with termite-resistant Alaskan yellow cedar.
“It’s exciting to bring back this bridge, which is an iconic feature of Liliuokalani Gardens,” said
