Expect nighttime slowdowns on Interstate 90 in western Erie County beginning Sept. 8.
Lanes will be closed at times between the Fairview and Girard exits while the Beckman Road bridge over the interstate is removed. Eastbound and westbound traffic also will be stopped briefly when necessary.
The work will be done weeknights from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. to avoid peak travel times. Demolition is expected to be finished in three weeks.
Why remove the bridge?
The Beckman Road bridge in Girard Township has been closed since it was hit by a large truck in February.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation closed the bridge due to safety concerns when it determined that the collision had significantly damaged several bridge beams.
