STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — There were nine vehicle thefts reported on Staten Island during the week of Aug. 25 through Aug. 31, according to NYPD data.
Despite these recent incidents, the overall number of automobile thefts in the borough has declined this year. According to the NYPD’s latest CompStat figures, car thefts reported through Aug. 31 dropped 35% (154 vs. 237) compared to the same period in 2024.
The last time car thefts were this low at this point in the year on Staten Island was in 2021.
For the most recent week, six car thefts and three motorcycle thefts were reported.
