TROUTMAN—Thanks to 14 unanswered points in the second half Friday night, South Iredell seized its first win of the season.

The Vikings defeated former Greater Metro Conference foe Hickory Ridge 21-14 in their home debut.

“Getting a ‘W’ is always good,” said South Iredell coach Lee Linville, whose team fell on the road in weeks one and two to East Lincoln (3-0) and North Mecklenburg (2-1). “We’ve got some young kids in spots that stepped up tonight. We had a couple seniors that got there and willed us through. It was a good mix for us.”

South Iredell running back Landon McClain and linebacker Xavier Farley were named the N.C. Farm Bureau Insurance Offensive and Defensive Players of the Game.
