DULUTH — A cherished local tradition in the sport of cross country, the Swain Invitational, is set to make its return in October following a six-year hiatus.
The formerly annual event, named after legendary Duluth Central teacher, coach, and athletic director John Swain, will be run on Oct. 4 at Enger Park Golf Course in Duluth with approximately 49 teams taking part in the 5K race as Hermantown takes over organization of the event, which dates back to 1951.
Since its original running, the Swain Invitational has been a marquee event, drawing scores of fans and talented runners alike.
