COVINGTON — Alleghany needed to get its offense working fast. Brookville wasn’t going to relent.

After three quarters of special teams blunders, turnovers and penalties, the Cougars were two scores behind the Bees in their season opener Friday night at Casey Field, and hadn’t scored since the first half.

Thanks to a 36-yard touchdown run by Carter Nicely, followed by a massive fourth-down stop on defense, Alleghany took over possession, trailing by five, and engineered a remarkable 13-play, 65-yard drive that finished in the end zone with just over 90 seconds remaining and gave Alleghany a 27-26 comeback win over its Class 3 foe.
