NEW ORLEANS — A fire destroyed one home and damaged three others in New Orleans on Friday night, authorities said.
The New Orleans Fire Department said it was dispatched at 7:59 p.m. to the 2500 block of Madrid Street in Gentilly. When firefighters arrived at 8:07 p.m. at Painters and Madrid streets, they found a single-family dwelling almost completely engulfed in flames.
Firefighters quickly called in a second alarm. Neighbors later told firefighters the house was unoccupied as firefighters worked to contain the blaze and protect surrounding homes.
A neighboring house also sustained extensive damage, and at least two vehicles were destroyed. Other nearby homes had mild to moderate damage, including melted siding, the NOFD reported.
