FOUR OAKS, N.C. (WTVD) -- A couple who owned Mexican restaurants in Harnett and Sampson counties were found dead Wednesday in Four Oaks.

The Johnston County Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check at a home on Grants Way off Lassiter Road around 7:30 p.m. Deputies discovered the bodies of Hector Cruz, 49, and Norma Mendoza, 47, inside the living quarters of a shed behind the home.

Chopper 11 flew over the home Friday afternoon.

Authorities believe it was a murder-suicide. According to the sheriff's office, it appears Cruz shot Mendoza before turning the gun on himself.

The couple, who owned at least two Mexican restaurants, including El Charro Grande, were well-known in the community. In a statement, the restaurant said: "With deep sorrow, we share news we never wanted to give.
