When Mary Ainsworth was honoured at a glitzy charity ball organised by Miss Universe GB, it was an emotional moment.

As it was not only recognition of years of tireless campaigning, but also a chance to reflect on everything she has achieved following a difficult upbringing.

Mary, 31, has been hailed as a 'role model' after spending parts of her childhood in care.

She has gone to study for three degrees and secure senior roles in education as well as being an artist, fundraiser and fierce advocate for fostering.
