A good example ran in the Sept. 5, 1951 Vancouver Sun: “Survey Asked on 2nd Narrows Dam.”

“National Harbors Board was asked Tuesday to survey the possibility of constructing an embankment dam across Burrard Inlet at Second Narrows,” said the story.

“The request came from (Vancouver) City Council’s harbors and industries committee.

“The proposal is being pushed by Port Moody councillors, who say they have learned from England that Guinness brewery interests, who built the Lions Gate Bridge, have such a plan under study.”

A search on Newspapers.com showed that the idea of building a dam at the Second Narrows and turning the east end of Burrard Inlet into a freshwater lake was first proposed in 1910.
