A man was shot and killed by Jersey City police after firing a weapon at civilians and officers, according to city and state officials.

Shortly after 1 p.m. city officials said a man began firing a weapon near Clinton Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard on Jersey City's West Side. As he approached a marked police vehicle, he began firing at officers as well, according to Mayor Steve Fulop's office.

Surveillance video obtained by PIX 11 shows the man approaching police, an officer recoiling and then aiming his weapon at the assailant, who rushed towards the officer. The video — the contents of which was corroborated by Gothamist with city officials — then shows three officers subduing the man after a tussle.

“The perpetrator was transported to a local hospital,” said city spokesperson
