On Saturday at 3:23 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 4:15 p.m. for the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island as well as Nassau County.
Wind gusts of up to 60 mph and penny-sized hail (0.75 inches) are probable.
"At 3:22 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Tompkinsville, or over The Verrazano Narrows Bridge, moving east at 35 mph," states the weather service. "Expect damage to trees and power lines."
Be aware that the thunderstorm may affect the following locations:
Flatbush and Coney Island around 3:30 p.m.
Canarsie and Brooklyn Heights around 3:35 p.m.
Forest Hills and Howard Beach around 3:40 p.m.
Jamaica and Kennedy Airport around 3:45 p.m.
Elmont around 3:50 p.m.
Valley Stream and Garden City around
