Washoe County Commission Chair Alexis Hill officially launched her campaign for governor Thursday, painting her Democratic and Republican opponents as putting billionaires before average Nevadans.
“I feel like my experience as a local elected official makes me an asset to you in the state of Nevada because I am closer to people and I see the problems on the ground, real time,” she said before a crowd of about 60 supporters outdoors on Victorian Avenue in Sparks.
Hill, a Democrat, will first face Attorney General Aaron Ford in the June 2026 primary and then, if she prevails, most likely Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo in that November’s general election.
She pointed to Ford’s support for tax breaks that brought Tesla CEO Elon Musk to Northern Nevada and Lombardo’s support for film tax incen
