PLATTSBURGH, Vt. (WCAX) - The penultimate North Country Honor Flight took to the skies this morning, but not before getting a heroes’ welcome at the U.S. Oval in Plattsburgh.

Several veterans from the Cold War era were on the flights to Washington, D.C. this morning.

Before they left, the veterans were recognized for their service, with renditions of the national anthem being performed and a brief biography read for each of them.

Among the veterans were the Plumadore brothers, all of whom served in the Navy.

They say the honor flight is the thanks and appreciation that many veterans did not get when they returned home.

“When you got out of the service, you basically only had one person to pick you up at the airport, and that was it. Nobody else really cared,” said Everett Plumadore.
