Skywatchers, it's time to look forward to September's full moon. This month's full moon, known as the corn moon, will appear this weekend, Sept. 6-7.
The Farmers' Almanac says September's full moon was called the corn harvest moon by many American Indian tribes.
The Abenaki of the Northeast United States refer to September’s Moon as the “Corn Maker Moon.” The Pueblo and Zuni of the Southwest call it “Moon When the Corn is Taken In” and “Corn is Harvested Moon,” respectively.
This weekend's full moon will also be a "blood" moon due to a total lunar eclipse, which unfortunately won't be visible here in the States. Americans will have to wait until next March to witness the next total lunar eclipse, also known as a blood moon.
