Ceddanne Rafaela and center field go together like peanut butter and jelly. He appears to have a chance at catching every ball hit in his direction, and has a cannon of an arm to go with his range.

With Roman Anthony out injured, there’s more playing time available in the outfield, so the Red Sox don’t have to play Rafaela at second base to get him in the lineup.

Red Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito was glad Rafaela was in center field on Saturday. In the fifth inning, Corbin Carroll drove a ball to deep right-center field. Rafaela ran it down, timed his jump and came down with the ball, colliding with the wall in the process. You can watch the catch here .

Giolito was visibly impressed by the play. He appeared to mouth “holy [expletive]” twice before he tipped his cap to his center
