A Scottish couple have appeared in court charged with embezzlement over a £200,000 online fundraiser for a cancer-stricken boy which was backed by Simon Cowell and David Walliams. ‌

Sharyn, 39, and Mark McInally-Johnston, 44, were charged over a GoFundMe appeal set up for Nathaniel Nabena, who had leukaemia and has since died. ‌

Started in February 2021, the campaign collected more than £216,000 to enable the 10-year-old Nigerian to undergo a stem cell transplant at Great Ormond Street Hospital after he was ineligible for NHS-funded care. ‌
