ALABASTER, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Many drivers’ rush hour commute is expected to get smoother at a busy Alabaster intersection, and some changes can already be seen on the ground and in the air.

“We’re working on multiple projects across the city to try to improve traffic and safety,” said Director of Infrastructure and Public Services Fred Hawkins.

At the intersection of Thompson Road and Highway 119, Alabaster is building a new multimillion-dollar library and recreation center.

More foot traffic could mean more actual traffic for drivers.

“So when we decided to build the rec center, we knew we needed to make a lot of roadway improvements here as well, for one – turn lanes into the actual development itself,” Hawkins said.
