LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Nebraska football’s season opener against Akron also marked the first ever football game with alcohol sales. The new tradition is leaving some fans with mixed reactions.

Alcohol sales were first approved at Memorial Stadium by the University Board of Regents back in Oct. 2024. For Lindsey Brabec, who has been a Nebraska football season ticket holder since 2018, is in favor of alcohol sales.

“I think its great because I think that is going to reduce some of the binge drinking I see happen out in the parking lots,” Brabec said. “If you are coming to the game and you are going to have the option to drink here maybe you will pace yourself better out there.”

Another Nebraska fan said she was a little nervous about the sales, but now has changed her mind.
