MISSOULA — Amid a plethora of new faces across Montana's starting 22, the running back room appeared to be a source of continuity and stability going into the 2025 season.
Redshirt junior Eli Gillman returned to lead the group, receiving pre-season Walter Payton Award excitement while entering the season with 2,137 rushing yards as a Griz. Redshirt freshman Malae Fonoti, who piqued fan interest with a 176-rushing-yard performance against Morehead State in 2024, was slated to backup Gillman and redshirt senior Stevie Rocker Jr. would contribute, as well.
The Grizzlies' rushing game did not miss a beat.
"Anytime you rush for 310 yards, you're over 300, 250, you're probably not gonna lose the game very often," Montana head coach Bobby Hauck said after the game.
