This election season marks the first time in 12 years that Greensboro residents will be electing a new mayor – and the first time in 18 years there is an open mayoral field.
Four candidates have stepped up to run for the position. All four submitted responses to questionnaires sent out by the News & Record.
Two of the candidates, Robbie Perkins and Marikay Abuzuaiter, have extensive histories in city government.
Perkins served on council for 16 years, including a term as mayor which ended in 2013 with his defeat to Mayor Nancy Vaughan, who announced earlier this year that she wasn’t running again for the office.
