Fast-moving thunderstorms uprooted trees, flooded streets and left thousands without power on Saturday as New Jersey weathered a destructive weekend storm.
More damage could be ahead, with more storms expected throughout the evening and into Sunday.
The National Weather Service has a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for most of New Jersey through 8 p.m.
After the first round of thunderstorms on Saturday, Franklin Township in Somerset County fielded more than a dozen calls regarding downed trees and wires, said Public Safety Director Quovella M. Maeweather.
The storms caused a large tree to fall in front of one Franklin Township home, trapping residents inside until firefighters could respond to clear the way, Maeweather said.
No injuries resulted from the incident, she said.
