CHICO — Every day Kona’s on Nord is open, Calvin “Cal” Pike walks three-and-a-half miles to order a sandwich.

“This place is amazing,” said Pike, waiting for his order Tuesday.

Kona’s on Nord offers an array of sandwiches, soups, salads and baked goods. The tropical themed restaurant, complete with an indoor rock waterfall, is owned and operated by Dave Whyte. Customers such as Pike are what inspire Whyte to do what he does.

“Whether its the staff or the customers — it’s the people,” Whyte said, discussing his favorite part of the job. “We know most customers by name and we know their order.”
