BEAUFORT, S.C. (WCSC) - Beaufort Police are investigating after an early-morning shooting left one person dead.

The Beaufort Police Department says officers were called to reports of gunshots at the Cross Creek Apartments at about 2:26 Sunday morning.

At the scene, officers say they found one person suffering from gunshot injuries. That person was taken to a nearby hospital, where they later died from their injuries.

This incident remains under active investigation. There is currently no word on the identity of the victim.
