Detectives are investigating a tragic collision that left a 3-year-old boy dead on Friday evening in Long Beach, police confirmed.

The Long Beach Police Department said it was 6:27 p.m. when officers responded to a call regarding an injury traffic collision in the area of Artesia Boulevard and Rose Avenue, a busy traffic area in the Hamilton neighborhood.

Police arrived and began performing CPR on the little boy until relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel crews who then took over, rendering aid to the child.

Paramedics transported the toddler to a local hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
