CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Early voting is officially over for Mecklenburg County’s primary election .

Officials say turnout was better than expected.

While it may not have been a mad dash to the polls, Michael Dickerson, the Director of Elections for Mecklenburg County, says people showed up.

“Well over 13,000 have already shown up. Two years ago, we only had about 8,500, 8,600. So those numbers are good-looking numbers to us,” says Dickerson.

Dickerson says while it isn’t the numbers we’d see for a general election or during a presidential election year, it’s still a big improvement.

“I think you’ve got some great candidates out there,” he says. “They’re all pushing their message. They’re all getting out to get people to vote for them. So I think that the candidate should be the one
