CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - North Carolina and Charlotte leaders spoke out against the deadly Charlotte light rail stabbing that killed 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska.
Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, was accused of stabbing her in an apparently random attack on Aug. 22. Video footage released from Charlotte Area Transportation System showed Zarutska sitting down in a rail car. Minutes later, the attacker could be seen stabbing her multiple times.
“This was an outrageously heinous and vicious act. Iryna was killed while sitting peacefully, an innocent life taken in a shocking and brutal way. We have told the district attorney, who is leading the prosecution, that our office will provide any and all support to deliver justice.
