ORANGE, Mass. (WWLP) - A child is safe after Orange police officers rescued him from the river on West River Street Sunday afternoon.

The Orange Fire Department stated that at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Orange EMS crews and police officers were called to the area of West River Street regarding a child in the river. The child and his brother had reportedly been fishing when he had slipped and fallen into the river, and was holding onto an object to keep himself above water.

Orange officers arrived first in the area and were able to wade across the river and bring the child to safety. The child was evaluated by emergency crews at the location and did not need to be brought to the hospital.
