ATLANTA — A court order announced this week by Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr will terminate more than 3,000 "predatory" contracts between a realty company and Georgia homeowners, a release from his office said.
The release said the order will prohibit the company, MV Realty, from enforcing its 40-year listing agreements and property liens in Georgia.
Carr's release said homeowners, including more than 1,000 over the age of 60, were "tricked into signing predatory contracts with the Florida-based real estate brokerage firm."
MV Realty, according to the release, promoted a "deceptively branded" program as a way to "get cash without borrowing" on the premise that borrowers could keep a small cash payment in exchange for agreeing to use the company's services in the future.
