The U.S. Open men’s final between No. 1 Jannik Sinner and No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz was delayed on Sunday because of extra security measures due to President Donald Trump’s attendance at the event.

Fans were left outside the stadium , waiting to get through a slow-moving security line as pre-match ceremonies took place.

The Associated Press reported that Trump received both cheers and boos when he waved to the crowd. The match was originally delayed for 30 minutes, but it stretched on from its expected 2 p.m. start time.

Sinner and Alcaraz didn’t walk onto the court until around 2:40. The pair arrived early in the morning because of enhanced security checks, The Athletic reported.
