SMELTERVILLE, Idaho — A motorcycle passenger died Saturday morning after a tire blowout caused a crash on westbound Interstate 90 at milepost 48.5 near Smelterville, according to Idaho State Police.

A 67-year-old Kingston man was driving a 2002 Harley Davidson with his 66-year-old female passenger when the back tire blew at approximately 10:25 a.m., police said. The driver lost control and crashed.

Both riders wore helmets, but the woman's helmet came off during the crash, according to police. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital.

Idaho State Police are investigating. Next of kin have been notified, police said.
