It's an unusual week in the Tulsa World's high school football rankings.
Four of the No. 1 teams in the state's 12 classifications suffered losses. But three of them remained No. 1 — Sand Springs (6AII), Washington (2AI) and Rejoice Christian (AI).
In 22 years of compiling the World's high school football rankings, it's been my philosophy not to penalize teams for playing tough schedules. A team doesn't automatically fall in the rankings after a loss.
All three of those teams lost to opponents from higher classifications. Sand Springs lost to 6AI juggernaut Bixby, Washington had its 45-game winning streak snapped by 3A No. 2 Sulphur and Rejoice was defeated by 3A No. 5 Cascia Hall.
