A grass fire burning southeast of Maupin grew to approximately 100 acres Sunday afternoon and threatens a solar farm, prompting a large firefighting response in Wasco County.
The Deep Creek Fire started around 2:17 p.m. near Bakeoven Road and was burning in grass fuels, according to Central Oregon Fire .
No structures were threatened by the blaze, but a solar farm faces potential damage from the flames, officials said.
Fire officials deployed multiple resources to combat the blaze, including engines, skidgens, water tenders and one crew to the scene. Air attack operations launched with single engine air tankers responding and large air tankers ordered to assist.
The fire burned in an area of predominantly grass fuels, which can spread rapidly in dry conditions and wind.
