KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A toddler is dead after being hit in a driveway Sunday afternoon, the Kansas City Police Department says.

KCPD says that at around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a crash at 96th Terrace and James A. Reed Road. When they arrived, they found that a toddler had been hit in a driveway.

The toddler was hit and run over by an SUV in a residential driveway, according to police. The toddler was then taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead shortly after.

KCPD shared that the driver of the SUV remained on the scene following the incident.
