NEWBURGH, Ind. (WFIE) - Since yesterday’s chemical fire in Newburgh, 14 News has been investigating past events involving the company, PBTT.

This isn’t the first fire that happened at the facility, and it’s not the first time a hazmat team was brought in.

Last December, 14 News reported on a structure fire at PBTT.

Officials at the time said Ohio Township Fire crews worked to put out the fire and a hazmat team from a neighboring county was called in for safety reasons to assess risks of chemical exposure.

One year before the December 2024 fire, a different type of crew was called in to investigate safety concerns.

On October 11, 2023, a complaint was filed with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Indiana Labor Board.
