NEWBURGH, Ind. (WFIE) - Many people have expressed concern about if the chemicals from the Newburgh fire have impacted the local drinking water systems and area ponds and lakes.

We previously reported that water runoff from Saturday’s fire flowed into Vann Park Pond and potentially contaminated it.

But the question on many residents’ minds and across social media is... Is that contamination releasing into the greater waterways and are public water systems at risk?

The official answer from multiple authorities is no... no drinking water supplies have been impacted.

Warrick County officials say IDEM’s Drinking Water Branch is working closely with the Public Water System operators in the region to give them up-to-date information on the situation.
