In a dispute over plans to cut £140 million from the University of Edinburgh’s budget, lecturers and other staff are set to begin a five-day walkout.

Picket lines filled with members of the University and College Union (UCU) are expected to be at various sites around the university every day until Friday September 12.

A rally is also due to be held in the city’s George Square at 12pm on Monday.

Edinburgh Live broke the news in February of this year when a letter was sent to all staff by Principal Peter Mathieson , informing them of an "urgent" gap in finances.
