Aston Villa are said to have made Jean-Philippe Mateta “a priority target” in the January transfer window.

Premier League rivals Leeds United and Newcastle United are also interested in the Crystal Palace striker, reports Caughtoffside .

The Eagles are said to be demanding £40m for the 28-year-old Frenchman.

Mateta’s contract at Selhurst Park runs out in 2027 and talks over a new deal are said to have taken place.

He was a standout performer in Oliver Glasner's side last season, scoring 17 goals in all competitions as Palace won the FA Cup .

He has also already scored three times so far this season, including against Unai Emery’s Villa as Palace won 3-0 at Villa Park in the Premier League before the international break.
